Overview

Title of Position: Diesel Mechanic Development Program

North Jersey and or South New Jersey Shops

As a trainee in our Diesel Mechanic Development Program, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity regarding what being a Diesel Mechanic is all about at a state-of-the-art shop. Here, you will make an impact by working alongside an experienced diesel mechanic at our Shop facilities to develop your diesel skills and put you on the path to becoming an “A” Mechanic. Your experience will include everything from working on ready mix trucks, heavy equipment, road service, parts ordering, and so much more.

So, what does a trainee in our Diesel Mechanic Development Program Do? As a Trainee, you'll be an integral part of our diesel shop operations:  

  • Work in partnership with Highly trained and experienced Diesel Mechanics
  • Perform minor truck preventative maintenance ranging from checking oil, grease and
  • Fuel diesel trucks and heavy equipment daily.
  • Check coolant levels, transmission levels, hydraulic oil levels, & engine oil levels
  • Power wash radiators
  • Report any issues found to mechanic on duty
  • Perform tire inspection and tire inflations on all equipment at location.
  • Change tires.
  • Assist the mechanic with driver write up’s
  • Uses, stores, records, safeguards and properly uses equipment, materials, parts and other supplies.
  • Maintain shop and work area in a clean and organized manner.
  • Fill out fueling sheets with mileage and hours daily
  • Prepare reports and records of time spent, materials, parts used and work completed.
  • Complete work assignments in the allotted time frame
  • Attend required internal and/or external safety classes and follow all safety rules
  • Demonstrates excellent communications skills; listens to other ideas and suggestions

Qualifications Required as a Silvi Materials Diesel Mechanic Development Trainee: Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, and robotic equipment- previous mechanical/maintenance experience preferred

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs-100lbs

Physical Demands

  • Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm.
  • See details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
  • Use muscles to jump, sprint, or throw objects.
  • Use muscles for extended periods without getting tired.
  • Be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath.
  • Determine from which direction a sound came.
  • See differences between colors, shades, and brightness.
  • Quickly and repeatedly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out.
  • Focus on one source of sound and ignore others.
  • Lift 50 pounds regularly
